Gurgle Bubble Splash

Authors: Richard Thompson and Eugenie Fernandes
Average review score:

This is a delightful, silly book for kids and their families
This is one of a series of books by Richard Thompson featuring his daughter Jessie. In this silly story Jessie befriends the ocean during her summer vacation. When Jessie returns to her home away from the ocean the ocean mails itself to her in a box. Amazing, silly things happen to Jessie and her town when she opens the box and the ocean is released. After a heartfelt talk, Jessie convinces the ocean to return to the box and go back home to the beach. The Jessie books are full of love and imagination. The art by Eugenie Fernandez go perfectly with Richard's stories. Don't miss these other Jessie books, "Foo", "Jessie On the Night Train", & "Don't Be Scared, Eleven".

Gurps Imperial Rome
Published in Paperback by Steve Jackson Games (January, 1900)
Authors: C. J. Carella, Jeff Koke, Ruth Thompson, and Steve Jackson Games

Fantastic and Fun
Not only do I use this book for ideas for campaigning, but I've used it to spur my imagination for short stories and writing. It's an excellent and useful peek into Roman life. It makes me wish that they would put out another series on the Ancient world as a whole before Imperial Rome ruled it all.

Wonderfully done!

Gut Reactions: Understanding Symptoms of the Digestive Tract

A Gastroenterologist's Review
I am a board certified gastroenterologist and internist. I purchased this book 9 years ago to help me with the first of many lectures I have given on irritable bowel syndrome. Unlike many other books and articles I obtained for the same lecture, I have retained, re-read and recommended this book above all others. Thinking it was out of print, I recently loaned it to a patient who found it a wonderful, thoughtful, straightforward reference that explained a lot of her symptoms and really made a difference in her life. There is a LOT of literature regarding functional bowel disorders available to the lay-person but this one has just the right mix of science and practicality to warrant my highest recommendation.

Thompson's (Arguable) Best
I love all of Julian F. Thompson's books, but this is probably my favorite. Unfortunately, like many of his books it is currently out of print. If you are under 20 and can possibly get your hands on it, it 100% worth it. The unlikely premise is beat by the superb characterization and writing. One of my all time favorite books, there aren't enough good things to say about it.

Hands Heal: Communication, Documentation, and Insurance Billing for Manual Therapists
Published in Paperback by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Publishers (15 January, 2002)
Author: Diana L. Thompson
Average review score:

obsession with documentation is now the future of massage...
Her first edition of "Hands Heal" was a collection of forms used for charting massage therapy sessions. When I saw the new book on the shelf being three times as thick as the first I thought "Oh my what more can be done with charting!" I now understand her obsession with charting. It is not just charting your sessions, but learning to communicate what you do, so the medical community and the public will begin to understand massage therapy as a healing modality. Communication starts with the therapeutic relationship with the client. Healing begins when the client becomes involved in the process. Then you can pass the information along to all parties involved - the lawyers, the doctors, whoever. If you document every treatment, you will be able to find out what is working and what is not with each individual. Documentation can assist you in builing your practice and support the massage profession as a whole. I particularly liked the section on ethics as she supports the idea of peer groups, mentoring and supervision as a means of development for the practitioner. I believe the future of the profession lies in those areas.
If you are a massage therapist in any state, this will guide you to a successful practice whether you are involved in billing insurance companies or not.

Hands of Fate
Published in Paperback by Avon (June, 1999)
Author: Ann Thompson
Average review score:

Romance Mixed With The Supernatural
I found this novel intriguing because of the many elements in it: Romance mixed with inner compulsion; threatening supernatural events; desperate attempts to understand the meaning of it all. The heroine, Pat, is a woman so attractive and gifted, the readers will wish the best for her while anxiously wondering where she will be led by the HANDS OF FATE.

Hardware Evolution: Automatic Design of Electronic Circuits in Reconfigurable Hardware by Artificial Evolution (Distinguished Dissertations (Springer-Verlag).)

Excellent Insight and Innovation in a young field
Thompson is an expert in the field. I stumbled upon his work a couple years ago in a fairly short Discover magazine article and pursued his website to read his other papers. This work is really interesting and is pioneering a new generation of evolution on a medium other than flesh. Thompson is a professor at the COGS school of Cognitive Sciences at Sussex University at Brighton. Another expert in this field is Inman Harvey. If you are interested in research in this field - buy the book, but if you are just curious to read bits of his papers and get a grasp of what all this is about see Thompson's personal website - http://www.cogs.susx.ac.uk/users/adrianth/ade.html -Good book, worth the research book bucks if it's a career/research step

Healing a Wounded World: Economics, Ecology, and Health for a Sustainable Life
Published in Hardcover by Greenwood Publishing Group (30 April, 1997)
Authors: Joseph Wayne Smith, Graham Lyons, and Gary Sauer-Thompson
Average review score:

Packed with references, scientific studies, and sound logic!
I hate to see "healing" in a book title. I expect to find a new-age, self-help book of the "win friends, influence people" variety. But ignore the title, this is a serious work! It's packed with references, scientific studies, sound logic, economic enlightenment, and quotes. This is the ultimate doom and gloom book (I think I have read them all). I highly recommend it!
